Program Oversight

Jowonio is governed by the Jowonio School Board, composed of parents and community volunteers; this Board serves to set the direction of the school and also provide programmatic and fiscal guidance. The Friends of Jowonio Board is a support organization, incorporated to provide funding for the school. Friends owns the building at 3049 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, New York 13224. The two Boards work together through joint committees to determine the vision for the school, to oversee finances, to make decisions to maintain and improve the building, and to determine personnel policies, fundraising efforts, and Board development. Jowonio School is authorized by four New York State agencies to provide services: the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Education (VESID), the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD), and the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). Each of these agencies provides programmatic and fiscal guidelines and oversight, and compliance with their regulations is mandatory. Friends of Jowonio Board of Directors
