On Leaving Jowonio

Jill Gillette, Physical Therapist and Parent, wrote a poem on the graduation of her daughter Dakota from Jowonio. It captures the reflection that many of us share as these children we love move on to other settings.

The colors of Jowonio are in the rainbows bend.
The colors of our children are in their rainbow of friends.

A girl from Korea, a boy that can’t walk,
A boy that pulls hair, a girl that can’t talk.

The friends of my daughter needed no words to start
A friendship of true love, born deep within the heart.

She saw the beauty in each child’s face
She saw their potential and played at their pace.

She didn’t ask questions, just accepted and learned,
And all those around her smiled, as children and teachers’ eyes turned.

What have I learned from my sweet daughter you ask…
To notice and love each person we pass.

Each child is a gift I believe from above,
Given to us forever to love.

The colors of Jowonio are in the rainbows bend.
The colors of our children are in their rainbow of friends
